A HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO ABERSYCHAN SURGERY

Welcome to Abersychan

This is meant as alight hearted introduction to the members of our practice. It is only intended to help you orientate yourself for the first few weeks and is really a who's who.

The Doctors

Peter Davies (senior partner)
Doug Dare
Mici Williams
Hash Joshi
Diane Edwards
Fran Machado
Steph Balboa
Geraint Jenkins
Deborah Evans

We are all committed to being a training practice and share your training amongst us. We have all are own interests within the practice and medicine. I'm sure that you will soon pick up on these so I won't list them here.

Ray Mills (Practice Manager)

Ray runs the practice for us. You will spend some time with him in your induction period but the main ways that you will be in contact with him is regarding the rota, holidays and money!!!

The Receptionists

In Abersychan: Heather, Barbara, Debbie, Tracey, Pat, Janet and Lesley

In Garndiffaith: Coral, Keri and Sue

There has been a recent reorganisation of the practice following the end of fundholding. As a result many of the staff have a dual responsibility for both reception duties and for certain admin responsibilities.

Heather Williams is the senior receptionist. But they work as a great team. Whilst some will spend most of their time in one surgery they rotate to both sites throughout the week.

They have a variety of experience but are a mine full of information. They will sort out your notes, deal with patient/admin queries, often will be able to tell you how to get to a patients house, and above all will keep you topped up with coffee or tea!!!

Computer Data Processing Staff

Karen has a number of roles. But she will help you with all your computer problems and will teach you how to use the system.

Secretaries

Pat and Jo

Deal with our letters which we usually dictate into a Dictaphone. You can also type your letters directly if you want to. Often a good source of information on where to refer. They change my ramblings into decent letters. Keep them short and you will be their friend for life.

Practice Nurses

Andrea, Annie, and Ruth

All three are very experienced. Janine has recently joined us. They do most of the family planning, cervical smears, Bp monitoring, asthma clinics e.t.c.

District Nurses

Sue, Nicola, Chris, Jayne.

A fantastic team who regularly liase with us. We can contact them via their Book held in reception or bleep them. Again very experienced with bags of enthusiasm.

CPN

Perry Attewell and Martin Price

Stressed , anxious or depressed??? Perry's yer Man! He works closely with us and with the local consultant psychiatrist. He usually hangs about the surgery but you can leave a message in his book for him.

Midwives

Too many to write down!! We have patients who book with Nevill Hall and others with the Royal Gwent. Each has its own team that can be contacted at base.

Health Visitors

Claire and Cerian. Both very approachable and always a great source of information about families and the behavioural problems e.g. feeding problems

St David's Sister

Hermione. Helps us mange our palliative care patients. A link to the hospice in St Annes. Consequently we rarely admit patients to hospital.

Phlebotomist

Elaine will do almost all the routine bloods and ECGs. She will also do the occasional blood in the patient's home for those who really can't make it to the surgery!!

Mrs Brown

Keeps the place clean and tidy for us!

I've probably missed somebody out!

Hope that this is helpful

Fran
