Disease Modifying Drugs >Intramuscular Gold

Dosage

	Test dose 10mg Please observe patient for 30 minutes for adverse reaction
	50mg weekly for 20 weeks then 50mg every two weeks for 10 months (20 injections) then 50mg monthly thereafter

Investigations performed by rheumatotlogy department prior to starting treatment.

• FBC and differential
• LFT
• U&E
• Bone Profile
• Routine urinalysis

Monitoring before each injection.

 

Investigation		Action
FBC		STOP if: WBC <4 x 109/L neutrophils <2 x 109/L platelets <150 x 109/L OR if: sequential fall of >10% in 3 counts
Routine urinalysis		STOP if: haematuria or proteinuria present, Unless MSU shows infection

Please note that in addition to absolute values for haematological indices a rapid fall
or consistent downward trend  in any values should prompt caution and extra vigilance.

Side effects

 

Rash, stamatitis, dyspnoea,visual disturbance

STOP if more than slight
