Information Regarding Swine Flu.

This is the advice from the Welsh Assembly Governemt

If you have flu-like symptoms stay at home. You can check the symptoms by calling the swine flu information line on 0800 1 513 513 or by visiting the NHS Direct Wales website.

Flu is an unpleasant illness but most healthy people, including children, will get better after a few days if they follow these steps:

  1. Stay at home and rest
  2. Drink plenty of fluids
  3. Take medication such as paracetamol to control fever and pain

Please do not go to your GP surgery, A&E, or other healthcare premises as you may pass the infection on to other people who are at a higher risk of complications if they get the virus.

If you are concerned – perhaps your symptoms are severe or continue to get worse – or you are in a high risk group then you should phone your GP for further advice, and if necessary, antiviral treatment.

For general advice, you can also contact NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47.

Updates, background and further information and advice about the outbreak of swine flu can be found on the National Public Health Service for Wales website

Information regarding Swine Flu Vaccination

For up to date information regarding the Swine Flu Vaccination, we would advise you to look at the information provided on the Wales NHS net website. This updated on a regular basis. The practice will be identifying and calling "priority" groups for vaccination, in line with national advice, very shortly.

Samples for Path Lab.

Please ensure all sample containers handed into the surgery are clearly marked with the patient’s NAME AND DATE OF BIRTH AND THE DATE THE SAMPLE WAS TAKEN. This will help ensure sample containers are not mixed up with others marked with similar names.

Home Visits

Home visits are at the discretion of your doctor.  Please do not ask your doctor to call unless the patient is genuinely too ill to come to the surgery.  A rash or temperature does not prevent patients coming to the surgery and will not endanger others.  Simply tell the receptionist on arrival.  Where the condition of the patient does require a home visit, please ring before 10.30am . You will be asked for some information about your problem and also a telephone number at which you can be contacted.  This is so that we can arrange our visits in order of priority.

What should you do with unused medication?

Please return all unused medicines and drugs to your local Chemist or Pharmacy and not to the Surgery.  We are no longer allowed to accept returned medicines and drugs.  Your co-operation is appreciated.

The Abersychan Group Practice is a medical partnership of nine doctors who work as a part of an extended team of professionals whose aim is to provide quality care to our patients.
