All patients with diabetes should have regular checks to monitor their diabetes and to detect any complications that can arise as a result of the condition. Many of the complications of diabetes can be prevented if they are detected at an early stage.

One of the most important checks a diabetic should have at least on an annual basis is a diabetic annual review. At the annual review each patient will have:

  • an opportunity to discuss their diabetes
  • a number of blood tests performed and an urine sample will be sent to the laboratory
  • Blood pressure and weight measurement
  • Lifestyle advice
  • Eye examination if this has not happened within the last 12 months
  • Foot examination
  • medication review and adjustment

This review may occur in the surgery or in a hospital clinic. For the vast majority of patients the annual review will take place in Abersychan surgery in one of the diabetic clinics.

If you are one of our diabetic patients and have not had an annual review please ring Abersychan Surgery and speak to the diabetic clinic administrative assistant.
